Organ concerts with the motto “In spe gaudentes – be joyful in hope”
The Krummhörn, west of Emden, is known throughout Europe for its density of historic organs. Instruments from several centuries are concentrated in a small area – including works by the famous North German organ-building families Schnitger, Hinsch, and Hus. This church landscape makes the region a natural setting for an organ festival.
The Krummhörn Organ Spring takes advantage of this concentration. From May 5th to 10th, 2026, concerts will take place in several historic churches in the Krummhörn. The 2026 motto is “In spe gaudentes – be joyful in hope” (from Romans 12:12) and shapes the musical programming – with a focus on literature related to hope and resurrection from the baroque and romantic repertoire.
Behind the festival is the Synodal Association of Northern East Frisia of the Evangelical Reformed Church. The Reformed Church community has its historical stronghold in the Krummhörn and uses the festival to make the unique organ heritage visible as a cultural and spiritual resource.
The Krummhörn Organ Spring is deliberately not a large event. The concerts are aimed at an interested, often musically educated audience that appreciates the intimate acoustics of the village churches and the direct encounter with organists. The concert venues change daily – a festival for wandering through the region's churches.
The festival focuses on the North German organ heritage and seeks bridges to contemporary organ music and sacred improvisation. With the theological motto “be joyful in hope,” it picks up a biblical impulse that is reflected in the choice of works.
The exact 2026 festival program will be published by the Synodal Association of Northern East Frisia in spring 2026. The structure follows the proven cornerstones of previous years:
Various historic churches of the Krummhörn (Aurich district, East Frisia). Concert venues change depending on the program day.
Tuesday to Sunday, May 5–10, 2026.
“In spe gaudentes – be joyful in hope” (Romans 12:12).
Concerts often with a free donation or a fixed admission price (experience values: €8–15 per concert, festival pass possible). Details via reformiert.de.
The Krummhörn is located between Emden and Norden. By car via the B 70 or the country roads around Pewsum, Greetsiel, and Loquard. Parking available at the respective churches.
