About Olewig Wine Hike
The Olewig Wine Tasting Hike is a classic wine and hiking format that the Trier Olewig Event GbR organizes every year at the end of October in the historic wine village at the foot of the Petrisberg. The concept combines moderate hiking fun with a structured introduction to Olewig wines during one of the most beautiful seasons – when the foliage in the vineyards glows yellow-red.
Led by experienced tour guides, often vintners or sommeliers, the small group moves through the Olewig vineyards. It begins with a welcome sparkling wine – a classic highlight from Moselle and Saar sparkling wine culture. At three stops, two wines are tasted at each, complemented by explanations of the grape variety, vineyard site, vintage, and the vintner's winemaking style. A total of six wines plus sparkling wine – a balanced amount for a relaxed Sunday hike.
The start times of 11 AM, 12 PM, and 1 PM distribute participants into several small groups, ensuring the hike remains intimate and there is enough time for tasting and conversation at the stops. The route has a moderate incline, but sturdy footwear is recommended. The tour lasts about three to four hours in total.
The ticket costs 68 Euros per person and includes sparkling wine, wines, guided tour, and sometimes small snacks. Due to limited spots per slot, early booking via the Trier Olewig Event GbR website is advisable.
