Festival Culture in the Alte Seilerei

Oldersum is a historically shaped district of the municipality of Moormerland, directly on the Ems-Seitenkanal. The Alte Seilerei Oldersum is now one of the municipality's best-known cultural centers and hosts numerous events by the Heimatverein. The Oldersumer Herbst is its flagship event in late summer or autumn.

Three-Day Format

The festival concept clearly divides the weekend into three thematic days. Friday evening is dedicated to the crime reading – a format established in Oldersum with regional and national authors. Saturday is Michaelismarkt day: in the halls of the Alte Seilerei and in the outdoor area, market stalls present regional products, music, and tastings. On Sunday, the apple festival finally takes center stage – with old apple varieties, an apple press, apple cake, and hands-on activities centered around the symbol of autumn.

Heimatverein as Organizer

The Heimatverein Oldersum supports the event with volunteer commitment. With the Oldersumer Herbst, it not only offers a festival weekend but also performs cultural and identity-building work for the village. The format is among the best-documented events in Moormerland's event calendar.

Oldersum is a district of the municipality of Moormerland and is accessible via the country roads of the Leer district. Visitors will find parking spaces around the Alte Seilerei.
