District festival in Munich's Giesing — concerts, hands-on activities, and street food along Tegernseer Landstraße
Giesing is one of Munich's most traditional districts, located south of the Isar. Home to the football club TSV 1860 München (Sechzger), the Bavaria district with its student pubs, the Loretokirche, and the Heilig Kreuz parish church. With Tegernseer Landstraße as its lifeline and Alpenplatz as its geographical heart, Giesing has a distinct character — somewhere between a working-class neighborhood, an alternative scene, and Munich's middle class.
The organizer is the district association Wir in Giesing e.V., which has been organizing the annual district festival for years with volunteer commitment. With a budget of 6,000 euros from district funds and the active participation of Giesing's gastronomy, clubs, and initiatives, a program is created that is far more than its costs would suggest.
The concept is decentralized and dense: Around 30 venues along Tegernseer Landstraße and in the side streets, from the Grünspitz to the Weinbauernstraße, the Schaumamoi, the Uhrmacherhäusl, Alpenplatz, to the Kronepark. Each venue has its own program — live stages with electro, reggae, salsa, and Bavarian folk music, readings, performances, dance shows.
Beyond the concerts, Ois Giasing! showcases the full spectrum of a district festival: art and poetry installations, children's workshops, craft activities, hands-on stations for young people, street food stalls, a handicraft market on Alpenplatz, theater performances, and citizen participation stations. The Lutherkirche provides a safe space as a retreat.
The concept thrives on the low entry barrier: free admission, program outdoors, everything within walking distance. This allows the festival to reach Giesing residents who might not attend larger Munich festivals (Tollwood, Stadtgründungsfest, Oktoberfest). Ois Giasing! is a rare synthesis of an alternative district festival and an accessible folk festival — very Giesing, very Munich.
The 2026 district festival once again features around 30 venues throughout the Giesing district. Live stages with music of all kinds (electro, reggae, salsa, Bavarian), readings, and theater performances at quieter locations, a market on Alpenplatz, children's and youth activities, street food along Tegernseer Landstraße. A detailed program and venue map will be published in advance as a flyer and on the website.
