About Oberlahnsteiner Kirmes

The Oberlahnsteiner Kirmes and Stadtfest are among the major folk festivals in the Upper Middle Rhine Valley UNESCO World Heritage site. For four days, Oberlahnstein transforms into a festival mile with a marquee directly on the Rhine, amusement rides, culinary stands, and a carnival parade by the CCO. The organizer is the Gesellschaftliche Vereinigung 1924 Oberlahnstein, which revitalizes the social center of the district with this event. The unique location on the Rhine, the family-friendly atmosphere, and the mix of tradition and folk festival character make the Kirmes a must-attend event in the Rhenish event calendar.

The Oberlahnsteiner Kirmes has been organized for generations by the Gesellschaftliche Vereinigung 1924 Oberlahnstein – an association closely intertwined with the history of the district. For four days, the Kirmes combines the atmosphere of a classic folk festival with the character of a neighborhood festival.

The venue is the marquee directly on the Rhine: a spacious tent with a stage, tables, and benches, which is filled with music on all festival evenings. The view of the passing ship traffic and the castles on the opposite Rhine bank provides the festival with an unmistakable backdrop.

Around the marquee, the amusement rides area is set up: carousels, a swing boat, bumper cars, children's rides, and the classic stalls with roasted almonds, cotton candy, and gingerbread hearts. Snack stands offer potato pancakes, bratwurst, fries, and sweets.

A traditional highlight is the CCO carnival parade – the Carnevals-Club Oberlahnstein, which, despite the September date, holds its parade as part of the Kirmes. Floats, walking groups, guards, and music bands march through the streets, combining folk festival and Rhenish carnival culture in an unusual, charming way.

Setup begins on Friday, and official festival operations start on Saturday at 4 PM. A traditional sequence with an opening, dance evenings, morning pint, family afternoon, and festival closing carries through the four days.
