Nordic Walking in the Western Oberharz
The Oberharzer Nordic Aktiv Cup is an established sporting event in early summer in Bad Grund. The high-altitude climate of the Oberharz, with its mineral springs, pure air, and dense beech and spruce forests, provides the ideal backdrop for a Nordic walking competition. Bad Grund is situated at around 350 meters above sea level and is surrounded by prominent low mountain peaks such as the Iberg and the Knollen.
Routes and Competition Classes
The Cup typically offers several distances for different performance levels: a short route of about 5 kilometers for beginners and families, a medium route of about 10 kilometers for ambitious leisure athletes, and a longer competitive route of about 15 to 20 kilometers for trained Nordic walkers. The routes are well-marked by the organizer and partially supervised by course marshals.
Sporting Concept
The Nordic Aktiv Cup positions itself as a grassroots sports event that combines the classic competitive spirit with the health benefits of Nordic walking. Scoring is based on both time and age groups, and a family classification provides additional incentives. Participation is possible regardless of fitness level.
Supporting Program and Atmosphere
Refreshment stations with drinks and fruit are set up in the start and finish areas, and an award ceremony in the late morning or early afternoon concludes the event. Many participants also use the Cup weekend for a short holiday in Bad Grund.
