The venue is the area surrounding the Nunkirche, a historic church in the small Hunsrück village of Sargenroth, which belongs to the Rheinböllen collective municipality. The Nunkirche itself was an important pilgrimage site in the Middle Ages, and the market originally arose in connection with pilgrimages and church festivals. Over the centuries, this religiously motivated market has evolved into a remarkably vibrant secular festival that has preserved its historic character.
