25 Years of Wine Culture in Northeim
Since 2002, the Northeim Wine Festival has been an integral part of the summer event calendar of the half-timbered town on the edge of the Harz Mountains. What began as a regional festival has developed into a supra-regionally known wine event that attracts wine lovers from all over Lower Saxony, northern Hesse, and Thuringia. The 25th anniversary edition in 2026 is announced by the organizer as the most extensive edition to date.
Münsterplatz as the Festival Setting
The historic Münsterplatz forms the backdrop for the festival. With the medieval Münster St. Sixtus and the surrounding half-timbered houses, an atmosphere is created that clearly distinguishes the wine festival from comparable events. The stands of the winemakers and exhibitors are arranged in such a way that there is enough space for strolling, tasting, and lingering even with large crowds.
Winemakers from Various Wine Regions
The Northeim Wine Festival presents wines from various German growing regions. Classic regions such as Rheinhessen, Mosel, Franken, and Baden are represented, as well as lesser-known growing areas. Riesling, Silvaner, Spätburgunder, Müller-Thurgau, Grauburgunder, Weißburgunder, and often also Sekt (sparkling wine) and Crémant are served. The wine merchants and winemakers offer personal advice and insights into their work.
Culinary Accompanying Program
Restaurateurs from the region complement the wine offerings with dishes that pair well with the wines: Flammkuchen, cheese platters, regional ham specialties, antipasti, and Mediterranean delicacies. Sweet temptations like crêpes and ice cream are also available. A well-thought-out overall concept makes the evening a delightful experience.
Musical Entertainment Program
Live music accompanies the festival days. Various bands and solo artists from the region provide the right atmosphere – from jazz to pop to singer-songwriter sets. The musical program is kept subtle and supports the festival without dominating it.
