Summery family days with games, activities, and fun on the East Frisian coast
OKKA, a friendly octopus, is the official mascot of Tourismus Service Norddeich. Conceived as an identification figure for children and families, OKKA appears everywhere in Norddeich's communications: on promotional materials, at information points, and – as a highlight – live at the OKKA Family Days. During these days, OKKA, as the mascot, takes center stage in a series of family activities and regularly appears as a "living character" to shake hands with children, take photos, and organize small games.
The OKKA Family Days include a wide range of hands-on activities. Typical components are:
The OKKA Family Days are aimed at families with children aged between 3 and 12 years. The program is designed so that siblings of different age groups can participate together. Parents are invited to join in – many activities are explicitly designed to be intergenerational. The concept does not rely on high entrance fees or commercial sales offers, but on strengthening Norddeich's family identity as a holiday destination.
In 2026, the OKKA Family Days will take place on two weekends: July 16th/17th and August 20th/21st. This format covers two different holiday weeks and offers families the opportunity to participate on one or both dates, depending on their travel plans. The activities on the two weekends partially overlap but also bring their own unique highlights.
The 2026 OKKA Family Days continue the successful format from previous years. The organizer is Tourismus Service Norddeich.
The detailed 2026 program (activities, times, locations) will be published by the organizer shortly before the dates. The structure follows the proven key points from previous years:
