The grand historical marksmen's festival of the city of Nienburg/Weser with a parade, folk festival, and traditional potato-in-skin meal
The Nienburger Scheibenschießen is rooted in the centuries-old tradition of the citizens' companies of the city of Nienburg/Weser. These citizens' companies originally had defense-political tasks in the Middle Ages and early modern period and have survived today as cultural heritage associations. The annual Scheibenschießen is an expression and highlight of this citizens' marksmen tradition, uniting the citizens' companies of the Nienburg city area — from the city center through Holtorf and Erichshagen-Wölpe to Melchiorshausen — for a joint festival week.
The festival is organized by the Officer and Non-Commissioned Officer Corps of the Citizens' Companies of the City of Nienburg/Weser e.V., an umbrella organization of the individual companies. This association coordinates the program, organizes the large festival tent, the shooting competitions, and the grand parade on Sunday.
The festival spans an entire week from late June to early July. The festival grounds with amusement rides (carousels, Ferris wheel, bumper cars, food stalls) are open on all days. The large festival tent hosts dance evenings, concerts, and afternoon events for seniors and ladies. The shooting competitions of the citizens' companies run concurrently over several days, determining the marksmen kings of the companies.
The highlight is the grand parade on Sunday with all citizens' companies, friendly marksmen's clubs, marching bands, fanfares, and historically dressed groups. The parade winds through the entire city area and is one of the most popular events in the Nienburg calendar.
The Pellkartoffelessen on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, at 6 p.m. is the traditional conclusion of the Scheibenschießen. Pellkartoffeln (potatoes cooked in their skins) with various side dishes are eaten together in the festival tent, and the festive award ceremony for the best marksmen, the crowning of kings, and honors for dignitaries take place. This custom is a specific Nienburg tradition.
The detailed daily program for 2026 will be published by the organizer in the spring on scheibenschiessen.de. The key points are the annually recurring program items of the citizens' companies.
