25 Years of Theater auf dem Hornwerk

The Theater auf dem Hornwerk in Nienburg/Weser is celebrating the 25th anniversary of its Theatre Festival in 2026. Since its opening, the theatre stage has established itself as a cultural anchor in the city and the district of Nienburg, providing a venue for professional and semi-professional productions. The location at Mühlentorsweg 2 — on the historic Hornwerk of the former city fortifications — combines cultural programming with architecturally valuable heritage substance.

Theatre Festival as an Open House Day

The annual Theatre Festival is the venue's most important event and also serves as an open house day: The theatre opens its doors to all visitors, presents its artistic program, offers insights behind the scenes, and celebrates its connection with the city community. With its 25th anniversary, the festival gains particular significance in 2026.

Programme Highlights

The festival Sunday begins at 11:30 AM with an opening service, followed by a concert by the Nienburg Music School — a tribute to the city's young musical talent and the close cooperation between the theatre and the music school. The tfn Hildesheim (Theater für Niedersachsen) — one of Lower Saxony's most important theatre production centres — will present excerpts from current productions. Regional music groups, theatre groups, and choirs will perform between the main programme items.

Hands-on Theatre

Theatre tours offer a look behind the scenes: stage technology, makeup, costumes, rehearsal stage — everything is explained in an understandable way and made accessible to a broad public. A raffle supports the association's funds and thus the maintenance of the cultural programme.

“Applaus & Zugabe” with Mahoin

Starting at 5:30 PM, the concert “Applaus & Zugabe” with the band Mahoin will provide a festive conclusion. Mahoin is a regionally established band that covers a wide repertoire from pop to singer-songwriter, shaping the musical finale of the 25th anniversary edition.
