Festival of 1000 Lights Andernach

The Festival of 1000 Lights has established itself in Andernach as one of the most significant large-scale summer event formats. The combination of an open-air summer festival in the Rhine Park, atmospheric lighting ("1000 Lights"), and a grand fireworks display over the Rhine makes the festival a tourist magnet and a fixed date in the calendars of many Middle Rhine residents.

In 2026, the festival falls on the weekend of July 31 (Friday) and August 1 (Saturday). The venue is the Andernach Rhine Park – that park-like riverside promenade along the Rhine, which offers an ideal festival backdrop with its trees, lawns, and direct location on the river. The organizer is the Andernacher Verkehrs- und Verschönerungsverein (AVV) e.V., one of the city's traditional civic associations.

Friday, July 31, is designed as an opening evening with free admission. Local bands and mood music characterize the evening program. Saturday, August 1, is the festival day with grand fireworks – admission is charged here (€8 for adults, children under 12 free). During the day, there are culinary offerings, stalls, and live music; in the evening, the main program begins: the Kölsch band Kaschämm brings Rhenish mood music to the stage, DJ Lollo spins afterwards, and around 10:30 PM, the grand fireworks spectacle begins.

The fireworks are usually synchronized with music by a pyrotechnics company and draw thousands of spectators to the Rhine Park and the opposite bank. Observing from the water is particularly atmospheric: in advance, fireworks cruises are sold by Köln-Düsseldorfer (KD) and other providers, offering an exclusive experience.

The "1000 Lights" are not just a visual effect: the Rhine Park is bathed in a special summer night atmosphere with numerous fairy lights, illuminated pavilions, torches, and light installations – an experience that is worthwhile even without the fireworks.
