Asparagus Festival and International Museum Day at the Quaet-Faslem-Haus with cooking demonstrations, family program, and music
The town of Nienburg/Weser has been known as an asparagus town for decades: the sandy-loamy soils of the Weser floodplain offer ideal conditions for growing the white vegetable. Asparagus farms around Nienburg are among the largest in Lower Saxony, and the local asparagus is regionally protected and appreciated throughout the Hanover region. The Nienburg Asparagus and Family Festival is the culinary and cultural calling card of this asparagus tradition.
The venue is the idyllic museum garden at the historic Quaet-Faslem-Haus on Leinstraße 4, a 19th-century Neoclassical townhouse that now houses the Nienburg Museum. The garden offers an intimate atmosphere where asparagus tastings, music, and family activities can be atmospherically staged. In parallel, the museum opens its doors with free admission for International Museum Day, inviting visitors to special tours and hands-on activities.
The culinary highlight is the asparagus cooking demonstration by the team from the Hotel Weserschlösschen, who will present well-known and new recipes featuring Nienburg asparagus. From classic asparagus with ham and hollandaise sauce to modern interpretations with Asian accents, the demonstration showcases the versatility of this noble vegetable.
For families, there is a bouncy castle, hands-on circus, and craft activities. In the afternoon, the duo Tangotola will play live in the garden – a tribute to tango and South American rhythms, perfectly fitting the relaxed atmosphere of a May day. The Nienburg Oldtimer Club will present its historic vehicles in the square in front of the museum, a magnet for lovers of automotive classics.
International Museum Day provides the setting for a culturally and culinarily rich program in the heart of the asparagus town of Nienburg. The museum opens its doors with free admission and invites visitors to tours and hands-on activities.
