38th edition of the traditional amateur football tournament with festival tent – four hot days and nights at SVN
The Nersinger Freizeitturnier is an institution of Swabian amateur football. For almost four decades, SV Nersingen e.V. has been organizing this tournament, which has long been part of the identity of the Swabian sports club and is known far beyond the municipal borders. The 38th edition in 2026 demonstrates the consistency and commitment of the club members who organize the tournament anew year after year.
The tournament is designed to be multi-category: Women's teams play on Thursday or Friday evening, traditional teams / amateur teams on another day, and the men's competition (with various classes) on the main weekend. The pitches are set up on the sports grounds, the match times are shortened in a tournament format, and the participating teams come from the Neu-Ulm district, the Swabian Danube Valley, and the wider region.
Parallel to the sporting events, a large festival tent is set up – the second, equally important pillar of the tournament. SVN takes care of the catering with its volunteer helpers: Swabian festival beer, roast pork, sausages, fries, Franconian specialties. In the evenings, live bands or DJs play, and the festival tent becomes the summer dance floor – the club's motto, »3 hot days and nights«, is programmatic here.
Nersingen is a municipality with a good 9,700 inhabitants in the district of Neu-Ulm in Swabia (state of Bavaria). The municipality is located in the Danube Valley west of Neu-Ulm on the Danube and in close proximity to the Baden-Württemberg border. The compact Swabian municipality has a vibrant club scene – sports clubs, marksmen, music bands, traditional costumes – and SV Nersingen, with over 1,500 members, is one of the largest sports clubs in the district.
The special feature of the Nersinger Freizeitturnier is the mix of sport and Volksfest (popular festival). Unlike purely Bundesliga amateur tournaments, the focus here is equally on sociability as on the sporting element. The tournament is a meeting point for amateur footballers from the entire Danube Valley, for club friends from the surrounding towns, for families, and for the entire Nersingen village community. Proceeds go to youth work and the club's training operations.
Thursday, June 4th, tournament opening with women's and amateur categories. Friday, June 5th, main tournament day with men's categories, festival evening with live band in the tent. Saturday, June 6th, semi-finals and finals, grand festival evening. Sunday, June 7th, family day and festival conclusion.
Admission to the festival tent is free. Team registration fees for participating amateur teams according to club regulations. Food and drinks in the festival tent at typical sports festival prices.
