Advent Market in the historic alleys
“Neef glüht” is a conscious alternative to the large commercial Christmas markets in the region. While Cochem, Koblenz, or Trier offer extensive markets and thousands of visitors, Neef focuses on a compact, atmospheric Advent market in the historic town center, primarily appealing to the local public and guests from neighboring Moselle villages.
The historic alleys of the village — with half-timbered houses, slate roofs, and typical Moselle architecture — are festively illuminated. Fire bowls provide warmth, wooden stalls present their offerings, and small musical contributions at several stations create a contemplative Advent atmosphere. The market is accessible on foot and invites relaxed strolling.
The special feature is the participation of the Neef vintners. At the mulled wine stands, they don't serve industrially flavored mass mulled wine, but high-quality Moselle mulled wines based on their own Riesling, Pinot Noir, or Dornfelder cuvées. Anyone who has tasted Moselle mulled wine of this quality once knows the difference to ordinary market mulled wine.
The culinary offerings range from classic Advent specialties such as potato pancakes, bratwurst, and pea soup to regional specialties like Schwenkbraten (grilled pork neck), Riesling wild ragout, and local cheeses. Sweet treats are available at stalls with candied almonds, Schmalzgebäck (lard pastries), and gingerbread. Woodworkers, ceramicists, and manufacturers offer Advent decorations, nativity figures, knitted textiles, honey, and small gift ideas.
“Neef glüht” 2026 will take place from Friday, December 4th, to Sunday, December 6th. The market opens on Friday evening, and on Saturday and Sunday afternoons, closing in the early evening. The event is organized by the Neef Festival Committee in collaboration with local clubs and vintners.
The exact program for 2026 will be published by the Neef Festival Committee in November. The structure follows the proven cornerstones of previous years:
