An Evening Dedicated to Light
The 'Night of 1000 Lights' is not a classic multi-day Christmas market, but a concentrated evening event where light takes center stage. Many electric lights are deliberately replaced with candlelight and lanterns. Residents place lights in their windows, shops illuminate their displays with soft light, and the town ensures atmospheric overall illumination of the town center.
Rocks in the Glow of Advent
A special feature of Dahn is the striking colorful sandstone (Buntsandstein) scenery around the town. Rocks like the Jungfernsprung or the Dahn castles shape the view from the town center. During the Night of 1000 Lights, parts of this rock scenery are atmospherically illuminated – a combination of nature and Advent spirit that can be experienced in few places in Germany.
Clubs and Shops
The local clubs, church communities, and Dahn's business world jointly support the market. Stalls offer mulled wine, punch, bratwurst, crêpes, gingerbread, and handicraft products. Shops decorate their windows for Christmas and sometimes offer special promotions for market visitors.
Among the Advent Markets
The Night of 1000 Lights complements the other Advent markets in the Dahn Felsenland – the Fischbach Advent Market, the Forest Christmas in Erfweiler, and the Hauenstein Christmas Market – and is usually scheduled as a well-plannable evening event. Many visitors combine their trip with an overnight stay in one of the region's numerous guesthouses, hotels, or holiday apartments.
