Concert series in five Upper Bavarian districts — Classical, chamber music, jazz, and folk music in special venues
The Music Summer between Inn and Salzach (e.V.) is a festival with an unusually wide radius of action: instead of a single venue or city, it encompasses the entire region between the Inn and Salzach rivers in southeastern Bavaria. Around 20 concerts are held per season, spread across the five districts of Rosenheim, Traunstein, Mühldorf am Inn, Altötting, and Berchtesgadener Land. The administrative office is located at the Traunstein District Office, reachable by phone at 0861 58-7053.
What distinguishes this Music Summer from comparable concert series is the choice of venues. Concerts take place in historic parish and monastery churches, in baroque castle halls, in monasteries, and in castles of the region — places that are rarely used for regular performances. Schloss Grabenstätt, the Bad Reichenhall Philharmonic Hall, and churches along the Inn and Salzach rivers are part of the regular repertoire.
Programmatically, the series connects three pillars: Classical music and chamber music form the core, complemented by jazz formats and programs featuring regional Bavarian-Austrian folk music. Invited soloists come from the international concert circuit (Bad Reichenhall Philharmonic, Dejan Gavric, Silke Aichhorn, Anno Kesting, among others), while regional ensembles and choirs carry the folk music segment.
In 2025, the Music Summer between Inn and Salzach celebrated its 50th anniversary — making it one of the oldest continuously running concert series in Upper Bavaria. It is supported by a registered association, with the five districts and their district administrators providing organizational support.
The region between the Inn and Salzach rivers in the state of Bavaria extends along the Austrian border. It is characterized by pilgrimage sites (Altötting), spa towns (Bad Reichenhall, Reit im Winkl), and historic monastery complexes. This cultural and scenic diversity is the prerequisite for the series' unusual venue profile — and makes the Music Summer a "travel festival": those who attend multiple concerts get to know an entire cultural landscape.
From May 22 to October 2026, the 52nd season of the Music Summer will take place. The complete program booklet is available for download on the festival website.
Ticket sales via the festival website (advance sales started). Gift vouchers also available. Prices vary depending on the concert.
The venues are spread across five districts. Travel by car via the A8 (Munich–Salzburg) is usually recommended — for concerts in larger towns (Bad Reichenhall, Traunstein, Altötting), travel by train is also possible.
Advance ticket sales for 2026 are open. Tickets and gift vouchers are available via the festival website www.musiksommer.info. Program booklet available as a PDF download.
