Music on Approach – Closing Concert Ludwigshafen

A Travel Festival of the State Orchestra

The Deutsche Staatsphilharmonie Rheinland-Pfalz is the state orchestra of Rhineland-Palatinate, based at the Philharmonie Ludwigshafen. The travel festival Music on Approach brings the orchestra to its audience once a year: Instead of the audience coming to Ludwigshafen, the musicians themselves travel to the towns and villages of the region. They use unusual venues – Romanesque and Gothic churches, castles, cultural sites, concert halls – and present their top repertoire in the intimate form of chamber music.

Three-Day Tour Through the Region

From June 12th to 14th, 2026, the festival tours several locations in the Vorderpfalz and Westpfalz regions. Concerts are planned in Frankenthal, Dirmstein, Kaiserslautern, Neustadt, and other towns. Each concert features a different ensemble – sometimes a string quartet, sometimes a wind quintet, sometimes a mixed chamber ensemble – and each has its own program of classical and contemporary repertoire.

Closing Concert at the Philharmonie Ludwigshafen

The highlight and joint conclusion is the concert on June 14th, 2026, at 6 PM at the Philharmonie Ludwigshafen. Here, several ensembles from the festival come together and present a joint program that musically bundles the journey and brings the festival audience together. The concert in Ludwigshafen is therefore not only a musical event but also a communal gathering of everyone who attended parts of the tour over the three days.

Chamber Music as the Pinnacle of Musical Artistry

Chamber music has always been considered the most intimate and demanding form of musical conversation. Few musicians, the highest individual responsibility, the densest communication among themselves – those who play in a chamber ensemble must expose themselves at the highest level. It is precisely this quality that makes "Music on Approach" a highlight in the Staatsphilharmonie's season calendar.
