Traditional Kirchweih of the Landau suburban village Mörlheim – concluding the series of Kerwen
Mörlheim is one of Landau's eight suburban villages in the east of the city. With its approximately 1,600 inhabitants, rural character, and active club structure, it is the venue for several annual festivals – the Flammkuchen festival of the rural youth in July and the Kirchweih in September are the highlights.
The Landau suburban village Kerwen run from the end of June (Arzheim) through July (Mörzheim, Nußdorf), August (Godramstein, Dammheim, Wollmesheim) into September. The Mörlheim Kirchweih on the third weekend of September marks the end of the series. This position as the season finale gives the festival special significance.
Unlike the wine-focused Kerwen of other suburban villages, the Mörlheim Kirchweih takes place at the village community center – not in a vintner's courtyard. The DGH and its forecourt form the focal point where clubs set up their stalls, a stage is erected, and the program unfolds.
On Saturday at 6 PM, local representatives and clubs open the Kirchweih. With the tapping of the first keg, greetings, and musical accompaniment, the festival weekend begins. On Sunday morning from 11 AM, the traditional Weißwurst breakfast gathering follows – a firm fixture of Palatinate Kirchweihen for decades.
Characteristic of Mörlheim are the film nights, which add a cultural component to the program. In addition, musical highlights shape the course of the festival. The grand finale is on Monday at 9 PM with the firework display, launched over the village – a brilliant conclusion to the entire Landau Kerwe season.
The festival takes place at and around the village community center. Film nights, musical highlights, and family activities complement the classic Kerwe program.
The exact 2026 program will be published by the local clubs in due course. The structure follows the proven cornerstones of previous years.
