Mittelrhein Musik Festival — Concert in Bad Salzig (Boppard)

The Mittelrhein Musik Festival was conceived as an ambitious concert series that fills the Upper Middle Rhine Valley UNESCO World Heritage site with high-quality live music. Throughout the summer months, more than twenty open-air concerts are held in locations that are not traditional concert venues — historic spa parks, castle courtyards, castle ruins, wineries, and churches along the Middle Rhine from Bingen to Andernach. The festival is part of the Kultursommer Rheinland-Pfalz, which promotes cultural events statewide under a common umbrella.

The Bad Salzig spa park is one of the traditional venues. Bad Salzig, a district of Boppard on the left bank of the Rhine, was once a recognized spa town with brine baths and is now considered a tranquil Rhine town with a beautifully designed spa park directly on the riverbank. The stage is usually set up in the open park, the audience is seated or on the lawn, with the Rhine flowing in the background.

The concert "Funky Tunes" on August 14, 2026, focuses on groove-oriented music: jazz, soul, funk, and big band are set to carry the summer evening musically. The exact ensemble and program will be published by the organizer in spring/summer 2026. Characteristic of the festival are high-quality ensembles, often featuring musicians from radio orchestras, regional freelance big bands, and renowned soloists.

The festival operates with a diverse programming philosophy — in addition to jazz and funk, classical chamber concerts, organ music, world music, and occasionally singer-songwriter evenings are on the program. The idea behind it: the Middle Rhine World Heritage site should not just be a tourist backdrop, but a vibrant cultural space.
