Gemstones, Minerals, Fossils, and Jewellery in the Trade Fair of the Gemstone Town
Anyone interested in minerals, gemstones, and jewellery cannot bypass Idar-Oberstein. The town in the Nahe region has been the German centre of the gemstone and jewellery industry since the 19th century and offers a dense ecosystem of museums, workshops, educational institutions, dealers, and jewellery designers. The Mineralienwelt in May is one of the most important regular trade fairs within this ecosystem, complementing the established Intergem in autumn.
At the exhibition space of Messe Idar-Oberstein, exhibitors from Germany, Switzerland, France, Italy, Brazil, Morocco, Madagascar, the USA, and other countries offer their stock: quartz geodes from Brazil, Moroccan ammonites, agate slices from Idar-Oberstein production, gemstones in standard cut sizes and special individual pieces, finished jewellery from regional and international workshops. The range extends from affordable souvenirs for children to investment collector's items in the five-figure range.
Unlike purely trade fairs, the Mineralienwelt is explicitly designed to be family-friendly. A children's programme with crafting and painting with gemstones introduces young visitors to minerals in a playful way, and a bouncy castle provides an opportunity for physical activity. Advance booking via mineralienwelt-mio.de with preferential conditions.
