Porta³ - MEUTE Techno Premiere Porta Nigra

The Porta Nigra – the black gate – has been the landmark of Germany's oldest city for almost 2000 years and is part of the UNESCO World Heritage. On June 18, 2026, it will become the stage for a concert unique to Trier to date: for the first time, electronic club music in the form of a techno marching band will be heard live directly at the Roman gate.

MEUTE from Hamburg is a pioneering project in the live techno scene. Bandleader Thomas Burhorn and eleven musicians – trumpet, trombone, saxophone, tuba, snare drum, and bass drum – aim to bring the energy of electronic club music to the streets using only acoustic instruments. Their versions of techno and house classics (including pieces by Laurent Garnier, Solomun, Mathame, Stephan Bodzin) have garnered millions of clicks on YouTube worldwide and led the band to major festival stages from Roskilde to Coachella.

The Porta³ Festival is the multi-day open-air format of the Theater Trier centered around the Porta Nigra. It bundles concerts of various genres into a compact festival week in June. Planned for June 18 to 21, 2026, the MEUTE concert on Thursday, June 18, opens the four-day series. This will be followed on June 19 by Christian Steiffen (Schlager), on June 20 by Till Brönner (Jazz), and on June 21 by the traditional, free picnic concert by the Philharmonic Orchestra of the City of Trier.

The concept of the "Techno Premiere at the Porta Nigra" is also significant in urban planning: it demonstrates how contemporary musical forms can make Trier's ancient architecture experienceable in new ways. Tickets are available via Eventim. Admission from 6:30 PM.
