The city's largest wine garden on the historic market square — German vintners, live music, and art mile around St. Lambertus, July 3rd to 5th, 2026
For over ten years, the Mettmanner Weinsommer has been the summer event of the small district town in the western Bergisches Land region. Organized by the Mettmann-Impulse business association, the festival transforms the historic market square around St. Lambertus Church into the city's largest wine garden — bringing German summer Riesling, Spätburgunder, and Rosé directly to Mettmann's city center for three days.
Several vintners from classic German wine regions set up their stalls on the market square:
The offerings include dry Rieslings, Sauvignon Blanc, fruity Rosés, Spätburgunder, Sekt — a selection that gives German wine lovers every opportunity to taste and buy.
On all three evenings, live bands play on a small stage — a relaxed program: Jazz, Acoustic, Soul, Latin, fitting the wine atmosphere. The musical program will be published in advance on the city of Mettmann's website.
Several food stalls offer accompaniments to the wine: Flammkuchen, Tapas variations, Antipasti, regional cheeses, vegetarian wraps, sweet desserts. Mettmann bakers and restaurateurs complement the offerings.
At the neighboring Königshofplatz, the Mettmanner Kunstmeile (art mile) runs parallel to the Weinsommer: regional artists and craftspeople present paintings, sculptures, jewelry, and ceramics. The combination of wine + art makes the Mettmanner Weinsommer a holistic city weekend.
Mettmann's historic market square with the late Gothic St. Lambertus Church is one of the most beautiful old town settings in the Mettmann district. Cobblestones, half-timbered houses, and burgher houses frame the square — a perfect stage for the Weinsommer. Its location in the pedestrian zone makes the festival relaxed: no car traffic, plenty of seating, short distances.
Mettmann is the district capital of the Mettmann district — located in the greater Düsseldorf area, at the transition to the Bergisches Land region. Known primarily for the Neandertal and the Neanderthal Museum — a few kilometers outside the city lies the discovery site of the famous Neanderthal man (1856). The Mettmanner Weinsommer turns the usual day trip to the Neandertal into a complete weekend with a city stay, wine evening, and museum visit.
The 2026 edition runs from July 3rd to 5th, 2026. Organized by the Mettmann-Impulse business association.
