Free admission to Worms museums on the international day of action
The International Museum Day has been organized worldwide by the International Council of Museums (ICOM) since 1977 and is celebrated annually in mid-May. In Germany, the German Museums Association coordinates participation; thousands of museums open their doors free of charge or with reduced admission and focus on their collections and educational work.
In Worms, two institutions are primarily involved: The Museum of the City of Worms in the Andreasstift showcases its collections on city, regional, and cultural history; from summer 2026, it will also feature the new permanent exhibition 'World of the Nibelungen Legends'. The Heylshof Museum — recognized as 'Museum of the Month' in 2026 — presents its collections of paintings, sculptures, and crafts in the historic Heylshof.
On International Museum Day 2026 (Sunday, May 17), admission to both institutions is free. The museum landscape of Worms thus particularly invites families and first-time visitors to spend a day at the Andreasstift, the Heylshof, or both.
In addition to free admission, special guided tours, educational activities for children, and family programs are offered at the institutions. The exact details will be published in advance on museum-andreasstift.de and heylshof.de.
Worms' institutions are participating in this largest global museum education day with free admission and a program tailored for the occasion. Families, school classes, and first-time visitors are especially welcome.
At the Andreasstift, program points will highlight the upcoming permanent exhibition 'World of the Nibelungen Legends,' opening in summer 2026.
The exact program for 2026 will be published by the museums. The structure follows the proven guidelines of previous years:

Free at both participating institutions.
Special guided tours and family activities as posted. Current program details on the institutions' websites.
