About Mettenheim Advent Market

The 22nd Mettenheimer Adventmarkt will take place from November 27th to 29th, 2026, at the Kulturhof – a lovingly designed, small Christmas market set against the atmospheric backdrop of a traditional Rhenish inner courtyard. For three days, the Kulturhof transforms into a Christmas village with mulled wine stands, arts and crafts stalls, regional specialties, live music, and a program for the whole family. Unlike the large city Christmas markets, the Mettenheimer Adventmarkt cultivates the intimacy of a village Christmas market: manageable, personal, with lovingly decorated stalls and the warm atmosphere of a dedicated community that puts the festival together.

22 Years of Mettenheim Advent Market

Since its first edition, the Mettenheimer Adventmarkt has become a firm fixture in the Christmas calendar of southern Rheinhessen. The 22nd edition in 2026 demonstrates how deeply rooted the Advent market is in village life. Organized voluntarily by the local municipality and associations, the market thrives on the enthusiasm of the Mettenheim residents for their Christmas tradition.

The Kulturhof as a Christmas Backdrop

The Kulturhof Mettenheim, a traditional Rhenish inner courtyard with old sandstone walls, half-timbered elements, and a spacious courtyard area, provides the ideal setting for an atmospheric Christmas market. Lovingly decorated huts, fir branches, fairy lights, and the scent of mulled wine and roasted almonds create a magical atmosphere that unfolds its full effect, especially in the evening as darkness falls.

Mulled Wine, Arts and Crafts, and Specialties

The market stalls offer classic Advent market fare: mulled wine (including a white version made with wine from Rhenish production), punch, hot apple wine, roasted almonds, gingerbread, Christmas stollen, and sweet specialties. Regional artisans also present their works: handmade jewelry, pottery, woodwork, knitwear, Christmas decorations, and creative gift ideas far from industrial mass production.

Live Music and Family Program

Over the three days of the Advent market, there will be a program of live music, choir performances, and presentations by local associations. Classic Christmas carols, brass ensembles, and children's choirs lend the market a festive and contemplative character. For families, there is a children's program with craft activities, storytelling, and occasional visits from St. Nicholas or Father Christmas.

Mettenheim at Advent

Mettenheim, a municipality in southern Wonnegau, reveals its most atmospheric side during Advent. Those who combine the Advent market with a stroll through the village can enjoy the lovingly decorated houses, window shutters adorned with fir branches and fairy lights, all in the pre-Christmas tranquility – a welcome contrast to the hustle and bustle of city Christmas markets.
