Market Festival in the Castle Garden

Obernzell is located about twenty kilometers east of Passau on the left bank of the Danube, where Bavaria borders Austria. In the center of the town lies the castle with its Schlossgarten (castle garden) — an atmospheric, park-like setting where the summer Marktfest takes place. The garden provides the atmospheric backdrop for a relaxed festival with a market and cultural character.

A permanent feature of the Marktfest is the open-air flea market in the castle garden: stalls with bric-a-brac, antiques, and handmade items invite browsing and strolling. Obernzell on the Danube

Obernzell is primarily known for its Ceramic Museum in the castle — a branch of the Bavarian National Museum. Its location on the Danube, opposite the wooded slopes of the Sauwald, makes the town an attractive excursion destination. A visit to the Marktfest can be well combined with a Danube boat trip from Passau or a bike tour on the Danube Cycle Path.
