Fair on one of Saxony's largest market squares
Marienberg, founded in 1521 as a Renaissance-style mining town, boasts one of the most beautiful and largest market squares in Saxony. This very square becomes the stage for a classic fairground at the Marienberger Marktfest – a welcome start to the Erzgebirge's festival calendar.
Rides and Market Stalls
Amusement operators set up classics that delight multiple generations: a chain carousel, the adrenaline-pumping Breakdance, a children's carousel, a prize stall with "great prizes," and other rides. Traders with special offers, bratwurst, shashlik, candied almonds, chocolate-covered fruits, and gingerbread hearts complete the picture. Admission is free.
Mining Town with Rich Tradition
Marienberg is one of the classic mining towns of the Ore Mountains, located directly on the Czech border. Visitors to the Marktfest should take time to see the famous town hall facade, the Bergmagazin (now a museum), the Marienkirche church, and the nearby Marienberg Racecourse. The festival is in the tradition of Erzgebirge folk festivals, which have set the rhythm of the year in the Erzgebirgskreis district for centuries.
