Traditional Mainz Wine Market in the City Park with wines from Rheinhessen, Rheingau, and Nahe over two weekends
The Mainzer Weinmarkt has a long tradition. Unlike the younger Mainz wine events such as Weinufer or Sun Down Wine Pop Up, the Weinmarkt is rooted in the 20th century and has its firm place in the Rheinhessen wine festival calendar. For decades, the venue has been the Mainzer Stadtpark, a spacious green area on the southern edge of the city center with old trees, the Rosengarten as its design heart, and views over the Rhine.
The festival concept works with four spatially distinct main areas. Mainz-Square forms the musical center – a stage with daily changing live acts from the regional and supra-regional pop, jazz, soul, and singer-songwriter spectrum. Rheinblick uses the southern corner of the Stadtpark with its view over the river for a special atmosphere in the late afternoon and evening. Herzstück is the culinary focal point with food trucks, street food concepts, and Mainz gastronomy. The Weinvillage brings together the stands of the participating wineries.
The Mainz vintners are represented with their wines from Mainz city locations, as well as wineries from the three surrounding growing regions – Rheinhessen (Germany's largest growing region, surrounding Mainz to the south and west), Rheingau (on the opposite Rhine bank with its world-class Rieslings), and Nahe (west of Mainz with its mineral white wines). This concentration makes the Mainz Wine Market one of the densest tasting opportunities of the three growing regions in a single event.
In the Rosengarten, the Sektfest (sparkling wine festival) also takes place – a homage to Mainz as a sparkling wine city with its major houses like Kupferberg and Henkell. An artists' market frames the event spatially and creates a relaxed strolling atmosphere between wine, sparkling wine, and handicrafts. The Mainzer Weinmarkt is an event by Mainz for Mainz and its guests – with ambition, atmosphere, and a long history.
The exact stage program for 2026 will be published by the organizer in the summer. The structure follows the proven cornerstones of previous years: both weekends with identical spatial organization and similar daily schedules, Thursday featuring a quieter start with the first stage program, Friday and Saturday full operation with the central music stage until late in the evening, Sunday a family-friendly end to the day with a morning pint and a cozy stage program. The participating wineries will be announced on mainzer-weinmarkt.de.
