Largest Carnival Ball in the Rhine-Main Area — Rheingoldhalle Mainz
The Mainzer Prinzengarde e.V. is one of the oldest and most representative guards of the Mainz Carnival. With its historical uniforms, the committee march, the dance formation, and its central role in the Rose Monday parade and the Prince's proclamation, it significantly shapes the public image of the Meenzer Fassenacht. The Mainzer Prinzengardeball, organized by the guard on Carnival Saturday, is its social flagship and simultaneously one of the largest carnival balls in Germany.
The venue is the Rheingoldhalle Mainz, the city's largest congress center with its multiple halls and spacious foyers. The entire hall is used for the ball: the congress hall as the main hall with a stage and large dance floor, the Gutenberg hall as a second dance hall with its own DJ, and further halls as themed rooms, bars, and lounges. Up to 3,000 guests can be accommodated in this configuration, making the Prinzengardeball one of the largest carnival events in Germany.
The program combines the classic form of the carnival ball with the event character of a modern large-scale event. In the main hall, the festive entry of the committee and the Prinzengarde dance formation is followed by a show block featuring the big names of the Mainz Carnival: Mainzer Hofsänger, MCC-Sänger, prominent jesters, international show acts. Live bands perform alternately with the stage program. On the other dance floors, DJ sets entertain the audience with carnival hits, schlagers, and dance music. In the bars and lounges, sparkling wine, beer, and cocktails flow, and catering stations provide culinary services.
The character of the Mainzer Prinzengardeball combines the solemnity of the Mainz ballroom carnival with the energy of a large dance ball. Tails and tuxedos dominate the wardrobe of the male guests, evening gowns and gala attire that of the female guests — alongside club and guard uniforms, which complete the picture of the Mainz carnival scene. With 3,000 guests in festive attire in the city's largest hall, the ball unfolds a unique atmosphere that makes it a must-attend event for the Mainz carnival society. Tickets are extremely sought after and usually sell out months in advance — the box office 111 serves the last contingent sale on site.
The program schedule of the Mainzer Prinzengardeball 2026 follows the proven dramaturgy of a grand Mainz Carnival ball. After admission from 7:30 PM, the program begins punctually at 8:11 PM with the festive entry of the committee and the Mainzer Prinzengarde in full uniform. This is followed by the opening block with the committee march and the first performance of the Prinzengarde dance formation. Over several hours, show acts, performances by the Mainzer Hofsänger and MCC-Sänger, jester speeches, and dance phases with live band and DJ sets alternate. The Mainz ballroom culture unfolds in its full breadth across the various dance floors. The ball concludes in the early morning hours, with many guests extending the celebration in the pubs of Mainz's old town.
