Traditional 8.1-kilometer city run on the Rhine over three bridges as part of the Mainz Johannisnacht week
The Mainz Three Bridges Run is one of the oldest and most popular running events in the state capital. Held since 1993, it has evolved from a fun run into a must-attend event on the regional running scene. The 34th edition on Sunday, June 21, 2026, will take place, as always, during the week of the Mainz Johannisnacht and is integrated into the city's festival week.
The start is at 9:30 AM at the Mainz City Hall (Rathaus) or the Rheingoldhalle, right on the Rhine promenade. The course runs in an eight-kilometer loop: first downstream along the Mainz Rhine promenade, across the Theodor-Heuss-Brücke to Mainz-Kastel (part of the Hessian state, politically belonging to Wiesbaden), along the Kastel Rhine promenade, back across the railway bridge to the Mainz side, continuing through the Old Town past the Fischtor, and after a loop, returning to the finish line at the Rheingoldhalle. The exact course length is 8.1 kilometers.
The profile is flat – no significant inclines, an ideal course for personal best times. The run is officially measured and part of the Rhine-Main regional running calendar. Top runners complete the course in under 27 minutes, the middle pack is between 38 and 50 minutes, and walking time is around 90 minutes.
The atmosphere is like a summer Volksfest (popular festival): Mainz clubs, sports teams, company teams, and individual runners mingle, residents cheer along the route, bands play live music at various points, and the finish area at the Rheingoldhalle offers stage programs, refreshments, and a pasta party. The run ends punctually before noon, allowing participants to enjoy the rest of the Sunday at the Mainz Johannisnacht.
Registration is via the event website – places are limited and usually sell out several weeks before the date. The event is already fully booked for 2026.
The 2026 program follows the proven schedule: Bib pickup and collection from 7:30 AM at the Rheingoldhalle, warm-up and stretching program from 8:45 AM, start gun at 9:30 AM, first finishers from 9:57 AM, majority of participants finishing between 10:08 AM and 10:30 AM, last runners shortly after 11:00 AM. Award ceremony for top runners from 10:45 AM in the finish area, pasta party afterwards. Course closed to motorized traffic during the race.
Start at Mainz City Hall (Rathaus) or Rheingoldhalle, Rheinstraße, 55116 Mainz. Finish also at Rheingoldhalle.
Sunday, June 21, 2026, start gun at 9:30 AM. Bib pickup the day before or from 7:30 AM on event day.
8.1 kilometers along the Rhine with three bridge crossings (Theodor-Heuss-Brücke, Railway Bridge), loop through Kastel and Mainz Old Town. Flat profile, officially measured.
Via mainzer-drei-bruecken-lauf.de. Limited participant numbers. Already fully booked for 2026 – no remaining spots available.
Refreshment stations on the course, finish line refreshments (water, isotonic drinks, fruit). Pasta party afterwards optional.
Mainz Main Station is a 10-minute walk to the start. Park-and-Ride recommended – city center streets partially closed on Sunday morning.
The run takes place during the week of the Mainz Johannisnacht – festival program at Domplatz, Liebfrauenplatz, and the Rhine promenade on the same weekend.
