Traditional Maifest of the Heimatverein Söst in Wincheringen on the Upper Moselle on May 1st, 2026
The Maifest of the Heimatverein Söst in Wincheringen is one of the most traditional customs events in the Upper Moselle region. On May 1st, 2026, the village community will gather for the Maypole setting and to celebrate together. May 1st is traditionally considered a hiking day in the Hunsrück and on the Upper Moselle – many guests combine the festival with a May hike through the vineyards or along the Moselle.
The Heimatverein Söst is the organizer of the festival and is responsible for preparation, setup, catering, and customs elements. Söst is a district of Wincheringen and has retained its village independence. The association sees the Maifest as a contribution to the preservation of regional traditions and as a community-building event for the villagers and their guests.
Wincheringen is located in the Upper Moselle wine-growing region, known primarily for the Elbling grape variety and other Pinot Blanc varieties. At the Maifest, local vintners will be serving their wines – an opportunity to get to know the typical light, crisp wines of the region in a relaxed atmosphere. Accompanying this will be hearty food, bratwurst, bread, and typical local fare.
The Maifest is manageable and familial – not a large-scale event, but a community festival with a morning pint (Frühschoppen) atmosphere. Those looking for a relaxed May 1st with hiking opportunities, Maypole tradition, and regional catering will find an authentic address in Wincheringen-Söst, away from the major tourist flows. Its location near the Luxembourg border also makes the festival attractive for cross-border day trippers.
The Maifest runs as a typical May 1st day with Maypole setting, Frühschoppen, lunch, and a convivial end in the afternoon. Hiking guests can spontaneously join the festival.
The exact program will be communicated by the Heimatverein Söst shortly before the date via the Wincheringen event channels.
The exact 2026 program will be published by the organizer in spring/summer. The structure follows the proven key points of previous years:
