52nd edition of the Maifest Maikammer from Ascension Day to Sunday — historic town centre as a wine mile in the Cittaslow community of the Südliche Weinstraße
Maikammer is one of the special Palatinate wine villages. The community at the foot of the Kalmit — the highest elevation in the Palatinate Mittelhaardt — is part of the international Cittaslow network, a movement of liveable small towns with high standards for quality of life, sustainability, and regional identity. This philosophy shapes the Maifest: it is not the biggest, not the loudest, but one of the most atmospherically dense wine festivals in the region.
With its 52nd edition in 2026, the Maifest is one of the oldest Palatinate wine festivals — a festival format that has grown and been nurtured continuously since the 1970s. The opening on Thursday, Ascension Day, marks the transition from the Palatinate spring to early summer and is the actual season opener for many regular guests.
The venue is the historic centre of Maikammer — one of the best-preserved Palatinate town centres with half-timbered facades, baroque townhouses, small squares, and narrow alleys. During the Maifest, this backdrop becomes a wine mile: the Maikammer wineries serve wine in their courtyards, the clubs provide refreshments at stalls in the squares, and stages are spread across several locations.
The Maikammer vintners serve their wines from the Mittelhaardt-Südspitze vineyards — Rieslings with fruity freshness, powerful Weissburgunder, fruity rosé wines, Spätburgunder, Sekt. Palatinate specialities at the club stalls — Saumagen, Bratwurst, Flammkuchen, Pfälzer Wurstsalat — complete the offering. Cover bands, Palatinate dialect artists, and dance bands alternate on the stages.
The 52nd edition in 2026 starts on Thursday 14 May with the traditional opening on Ascension Day. The Maikammer wineries and clubs jointly present a four-day festival programme in the historic town centre.
The exact programme for 2026 will be published by the organiser in spring. The structure will follow the proven cornerstones of previous years.
