Three-day spring funfair with live music, rides, and Sunday shopping on Mother's Day weekend
The Maiblütenfest Übach-Palenberg is the traditional spring event of the small town in the Heinsberg district. For three days—from May 8th to 10th, 2026, precisely on Mother's Day weekend—the town center of Übach will transform into a festival mile: from Rathausplatz via Carolus-Magnus-Straße to Carlsplatz. Rides, market stalls, live music, and a cozy food mile will characterize the weekend.
Classic May funfair attractions: Bumper cars, children's rides, grab and game machines, duck fishing, trampoline park. Additionally, the fire department and the Technical Relief Agency (THW) present hands-on activities — a tradition that makes safety and rescue services visible.
On Sunday shopping day, regional exhibitors offer handmade jewelry, handcrafted clothing, garden decorations, furniture, and spices — a mix of market and craft show. Complemented by the shops in Übach's town center, which open their doors.
Übach-Palenberg is located in the Heinsberg district, about 25 kilometers northwest of Aachen, directly on the border with the Netherlands. With about 24,000 inhabitants, it is a typical Lower Rhenish-Aachener small town with Dutch influences. The Übach district is the historic center with the parish church of St. Petrus and Zweibrüggen Castle nearby. The Maiblütenfest is one of the two major annual town festivals, alongside the autumn funfair.
Behind the event is the association Pro Übach e.V. — a citizens' association that enlivens the town center, organizes events, and supports the local economy. Übach's showman businesses work closely with the association. The Maiblütenfest is the association's most important format.
