Civic Festival for the Basic Law's Birthday

The MachMit-Fest: Together in Potsdam is a participatory civic festival taking place on Saturday, May 23, 2026, from 11 AM to 3 PM at the Rechenzentrum Potsdam (Dortustraße 46). The occasion is the birthday of the Basic Law – on May 23, 1949, the Basic Law of the Federal Republic of Germany was promulgated, making 2026 the 77th anniversary. The festival aims to bring people together, create creative activities, and set a signal for democracy, cohesion, and engagement in Potsdam.

Rechenzentrum Potsdam – A Place for Art and Encounters

The Rechenzentrum Potsdam is a vibrant hub for art and encounters in Potsdam's city center, established in 2018 as a temporary use of a former GDR data center opposite the Garnisonkirche. Artistic and civil society initiatives, as well as creative crafts, have their spaces here – a perfect venue for the MachMit-Fest with its core idea of lived democracy.

Program Stations

• Seed Bomb Workshop – Hands-on activity with clay balls and wildflower seeds to be distributed in the city afterwards.
• Collaborative Art Projects – Joint painting and crafting activities.
• "SprichMit!" Language Café – 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM, informal exchange in various languages.
• Networking with Local Engagement Initiatives – Booths from Potsdam's associations and organizations.
• Face Painting and family activities.
• Free Refreshments for all guests.
• Live music and short talks on the topic of democracy and cohesion.

Organizers and "Ehrentag" Campaign

The festival is a collaborative initiative by "Du für Brandenburg" and "Erfahrung zählt" – two projects of the association GoVolunteer e.V. – in partnership with the Flüchtlingshilfe Babelsberg. It is part of the nationwide "Ehrentag" campaign, which celebrates volunteer engagement and the values of the Basic Law.
