Buxtehude in Advent
Buxtehude unfolds a special atmosphere in Advent. The compact half-timbered city center with its historic buildings, the town hall, St. Petri Church, and narrow alleys becomes an Advent landscape with fairy lights, fir green, and festive cheer. The Wintermärchen Buxtehude uses this backdrop for the city Christmas market.
Stadtmarketing Buxtehude as Organizer
Stadtmarketing Buxtehude coordinates and organizes the Christmas market on behalf of the city and in cooperation with local businesses and associations. The goal is to liven up the city center during Advent, attract visitors, and support local retail and the event industry.
Classic Market Offerings
The stalls offer the classic Christmas market fare: mulled wine, punch, Feuerzangenbowle, children's punch, mulled wine variations, candied almonds, gingerbread, meringue, chocolate specialties, bratwurst, potato pancakes, crepes, burgers, fries, Advent decorations, arts and crafts made of wood, ceramics, textiles, floristry, toys, gift ideas.
Four Weeks of Advent
With opening hours from November 27 to December 24, the market spans the entire Advent period and closes on Christmas Eve. This makes it open for early Advent excursions as well as last-minute gift shopping just before the holiday.
Advent Program
In addition to the stalls, Stadtmarketing and Buxtehude associations organize an Advent program with concerts, readings, performances by local choirs, and family programs. St. Petri Church hosts several Advent concerts. Santa Claus visits the children.
Public Transport Connection to Hamburg
Buxtehude is directly connected to Hamburg via the S-Bahn line S3. This makes Wintermärchen Buxtehude an attractive alternative to the large Christmas markets in Hamburg — the Hanseatic city atmosphere of a compact town combines with accessibility from the metropolis.
