Weekend with hiking, running, cycling and outdoor activities in the Lüneburg Heath — as part of European Mobility Week
The Heath Days as a health sport weekend combine two annual events — European Mobility Week (mid-September) and the peak of the heath bloom, which, although usually over by early September, still offers remaining blossoms and the typical late-summer heath colours. The concept focuses on accessible movement and nature experiences for all age groups. Anyone wanting to spend an active day in the heath — whether hiking, running, cycling, or participating in gentle movement formats — will find a suitable offer.
Guided hikes lead along typical heath paths from Lüneburg towards Wilseder Berg and other prominent heath areas. Running tours are offered for different levels — from leisurely fun runs to ambitious trail runs. Cycling trips follow the well-developed cycle paths of the heath. Gentle movement formats such as outdoor yoga, Nordic walking, breathing exercises, and mindfulness walks complete the offerings. Family activities are aimed at parents with children.
The Heath Days take place as part of European Mobility Week (September 16–22, 2026) — a Europe-wide initiative to promote sustainable mobility. In this context, information stands on cycling culture, public transport services, and sustainable tourism will also be set up. Lüneburg's participation in Mobility Week includes several formats — the Heath Days as a health sport weekend is one of them.
With its extensive heathlands, juniper groups, birch forests, and rolling hills, the Lüneburg Heath is one of the most beautiful natural areas in Northern Germany. From Lüneburg, the northern heath areas are accessible within a few kilometers — by car, train, and bus. The health sport activities utilize this proximity and lead participants into the natural landscape.
As in previous years, the weekend will offer a combination of sporty and ambitious formats and accessible movement and nature experiences. The exact routes, meeting points, and registration details will be published by the organizer in the weeks leading up to the weekend. Some activities are free or have a small participation fee, while others — especially guided hikes with professional leadership — are subject to a charge.
The exact detailed program for 2026 will be published by the organizer. The structure follows the proven key points:
