The Parkinsel: Natural Scenery for City Runners
The Parkinsel on the Rhine is one of Ludwigshafen's most beautiful recreational areas. Nestled between Rhine arms and the northern Stadtpark, it offers a flat, shaded, and traffic-free circuit ideal for sporting events. This topography makes the Insellauf a particularly beginner-friendly format.
4 x 4.2 Kilometers: The Relay Principle
The Insellauf is held in a relay format: each team consists of four runners who consecutively complete a 4.2-kilometer lap. The total distance per team is thus just under a half marathon (16.8 km). This format significantly lowers the individual entry barrier compared to classic long-distance races, making it attractive for corporate teams, club teams, school teams, and groups of friends.
Accessible and Social
With an entry fee of €24 to €32 per team (€12 for school teams) and a limit of 100 teams, the race is positioned as a community sporting event rather than a professional competition. The 5:30 PM start allows working individuals to be at the starting line promptly after work. The familiar atmosphere, the communal pasta meal, and the subsequent gathering in the Stadtpark are a fixed part of the summer program for many regular teams.
Ludwigshafener Lauf-Club as Organizer
The organizer is the Ludwigshafener Lauf-Club e.V., which organizes running training, competitions, and events in the city area throughout the year. With the Insellauf, the club offers one of its most popular formats. Registration deadline is August 9, 2026.
