The Island in Autumn Light

As the summer season winds down, 'Lücht up Börkum' bathes the island in an extraordinary light for six evenings. The Borkum Light Week combines artistic illuminations, light projections, culinary stations, and surprising stagings at several locations spread across the island. The aim is a walk-in festival where visitors can explore the island on foot or by the island railway, entering a different light space at each location.

Locations Spread Across the Island

The nightly light locations include the Culture Island, the lightship Borkumriff in the harbor, the Ankerplatz, and the Seehotel Upstalsboom. The stagings vary depending on the location, ranging from projected light spaces and light installations with maritime motifs to illuminations of historic island buildings. The light installations are accompanied by culinary stations offering regional specialties and winter hot drinks.

Atmosphere and Program

The illuminations are activated daily from 6:30 PM to 9:30 PM. Families and adults alike are catered for; surprise moments await at several light locations — small performances, suddenly flickering effects, soundscapes. Those who wish to experience the island's autumn from its quiet, artistic side will find a unique format here.

Organizers and Travel

The Borkum Light Week is supported by the Nordseeheilbad Borkum (North Sea Health Resort Borkum). The island is accessible via ferries from Emden Outer Harbour. On the island, the island railway and local buses operate, and many light locations are easily reachable on foot.
