About SommerUni Koblenz
The University of Koblenz is the most important higher education institution on the Middle Rhine and was re-established as an independent, comprehensive university following the 2023 higher education reform. With its campus in the Metternich district on the right bank of the Rhine and around 9,000 students, it shapes the academic and cultural life in Koblenz and the region.
SommerUni as a Festival Series
The SommerUni is a festival series that combines the academic program of the university with cultural, sporting, and festive formats. From the opening on May 8, 2026, well into the summer, lectures, readings, workshops, concerts, and networking opportunities will take place on campus, in lecture halls, and outdoors. The goal: to make the university visible as a vibrant place for science and the urban community.

The opening on May 8, 2026 is designed as an open-air festival on campus. The program includes typical opening elements of a SommerUni: an opening speech by the university leadership, short lectures introducing the summer offerings, a cultural stage program with university bands or local artists, gastronomic offerings, and opportunities for students, university members, and guests from the city to mingle.
Bridge Between University and City
A central idea of the SommerUni is the opening of the university to the Koblenz urban community. Public lectures, family afternoons, sports events, and cultural programs are explicitly aimed at non-students as well. The SommerUni thus sees itself as an important contribution to the university's third mission: knowledge transfer and co-shaping regional development.
