Golden Jubilee of the Limburgerhof Kerwe with Open-Air Festival, Associations, and Live Music on Speyerer Straße
The Limburgerhof Street Festival is the annual Kerwe (traditional fair) of the municipality of Limburgerhof and in 2026 celebrates a significant anniversary: the 50th edition of the festival marks half a century of uninterrupted tradition. This makes the street festival one of the oldest continuously celebrated community festivals in the Rhein-Pfalz district and it is deeply rooted in the identity of the Limburgerhof population.
From Thursday to Sunday, Speyerer Straße – the main axis of the community – transforms into a festival mile with stalls, stages, and seating areas. Local associations, from the fire department and sports clubs to music and cultural associations, set up their food stalls and contribute to the success of the festival with their volunteer commitment. Palatinate wine from local vintners, beer from regional breweries, Saumagen (a traditional Palatinate specialty), Flammkuchen (tarte flambée), crêpes, and ice cream form the culinary core.
For its 50th anniversary, the municipality of Limburgerhof has come up with something special: an Open-Air Festival on Friday, September 4th, is set to enhance the program. Several stages with live music from various genres are planned, ranging from rock and pop to cover bands and DJ sets in the later hours. The exact festival program will be announced by the organizer in the summer of 2026.
After World War II, Limburgerhof was shaped in its current form by the establishment of the BASF agricultural center (today "BASF Limburgerhof"), where research on plant protection and fertilizers has been conducted for over 100 years. This international influence is reflected in the cosmopolitan community, which, with nearly 12,000 inhabitants, has developed its own identity in the commuter belt between Ludwigshafen and Speyer.
The 2026 anniversary street festival will be larger and more diverse than in previous years. The municipality of Limburgerhof is preparing an expanded program for the festival's 50th birthday, combining the traditional Kerwe with a contemporary open-air festival. Associations, caterers, and cultural groups from Limburgerhof and the surrounding area are involved. Speyerer Straße will become a festival mile for four days, expecting thousands of guests from the Rhein-Pfalz district and the Rhine-Neckar metropolitan region.
The exact program for 2026 will be published by the organizer in the summer. The structure follows the proven cornerstones of previous years:
Thursday, September 3rd: Festival opening in the evening with a festival tent, association stalls, and music. Welcome by the mayor and a celebratory speech for the 50th anniversary.
