Premium artisan crafts in an industrial monument
The schauinsland-reisen Lichtermarkt in Landschaftspark Duisburg-Nord has been one of Germany's most renowned artisan markets and the most unique Christmas market in the Ruhr area for years. From Friday, November 27th to Sunday, November 29th, 2026, the decommissioned blast furnace plant and the monumental gas exhauster hall will be transformed into an atmospheric market stage with over 120 exhibitors and an elaborate light installation.
Landschaftspark Duisburg-Nord — the former colliery's wonder
The Landschaftspark Duisburg-Nord on the grounds of the former Meiderich steelworks (closed in 1985) is one of the best-known examples of the re-use of industrial heritage in the Ruhr area. The iconic Blast Furnace 5, the Gas Exhauster Hall, the Möller bunker area, and the illuminated outdoor space by light artist Jonathan Park make the park world-famous. Time magazine listed it among the “50 best places in the world”.
The market concept — premium instead of plastic
The Lichtermarkt differs from classic Christmas markets through its strict curation concept: only handmade artisan crafts, no standard consumer goods, no mass production. The over 120 exhibitors are carefully selected by the organizer Tour de Ruhr GmbH — applications are accepted in spring.
What you will find at the market
- Ceramics and Porcelain — cups, vases, bowls from pottery workshops
- Jewelry — silver, gemstones, alternative materials
- Textiles and Felt — knitwear, wool collections, felted bags
- Wood Art — carvings, furniture, toys
- Leatherwork — bags, belts, wallets
- Delicacies — honey, liqueurs, chocolate manufacturers, tea, spices
