Leutesdorf — Smallest Winegrowing Community on the Romantic Middle Rhine

Leutesdorf is located on the right bank of the Rhine in the southern district of Neuwied and is one of the traditional winegrowing communities on the Middle Rhine. Despite its small size, the community cultivates a distinct wine culture. The “WeinSTEIGwinzer” are an association of local winegrowing families who jointly handle the marketing of their wines and event formats.

“Tafeln am Strom” — The Concept

The wine picnic adopts a tradition popular in France: the long table in a public space. On the plane tree avenue directly by the Rhine, a continuous table made of joined tables is set up. Guests reserve their spots in advance, bring food, cutlery, plates, and napkins (BYO principle), and set their places. The WeinSTEIGwinzer serve their wines concurrently. This creates an open, communal picnic atmosphere where neighbors and strangers can get to know each other.

Riesling on the Rhine

The Leutesdorf vineyards — especially Forstberg, Gartenlay, and Rosenberg — produce mineralic, characterful Rieslings. At the wine picnic, the winemakers typically showcase a selection of their current Riesling vintages, complemented by Pinot Noir Rosé, Pinot Blanc, sparkling wine, and Riesling sparkling wine. Tasting passes or individual billing are possible.

For first-time visitors to the wine picnic: reserve in advance through the municipality or the WeinSTEIGwinzer; bring good picnic cutlery (cheese board, bread, cold dishes, possibly table decorations). Don't forget plates and napkins. The atmosphere rewards thorough preparation.
