Traditional fair in Niederlahnstein with wine village, parade, rubber duck race, and crowning of the Rhein-Lahn-Nixe
The Lehner Kirmes in Niederlahnstein is a traditional fair with centuries of history. It derives its name from the old tribal group of the 'Lehner' – a medieval term for the inhabitants of the lower Lahn region. Today, the Kirmes is a central point in Lahnstein's event calendar, attracting visitors from the entire Rhein-Lahn district, Koblenz, and the Westerwald.
For the 2026 edition – expected to take place on the first weekend of September, from September 4th to 7th – the city of Lahnstein, together with local associations, is planning a Lehner Weindorf (wine village) on the banks of the Lahn as a culinary and social hub. Here, vintners from the surrounding wine-growing regions (Mittelrhein, Mosel) will serve their wines, caterers and associations will offer regional specialties, and a relaxed festival atmosphere will emerge under wine pergolas right by the water.
The festival program includes classic fair elements – amusement rides, market stalls, live music on several stages, a festival tent with catering by associations – and several unique features that distinguish the Lehner Kirmes:
The event is deeply intertwined with local community life and is one of the major civic festivals in the region.
The 2026 festival continues the centuries-old tradition. With the wine village as a culinary focus and the combination of a classic fair and Lahnstein-specific elements (rubber duck race, Rhein-Lahn-Nixe), a unique event cocktail is created.
