26th Landpartie at Bückeburg Castle themed "Japan – Land of the Rising Sun" – a garden and cultural festival with an Asian focus
For over two and a half decades, the annual Landpartie at Bückeburg Castle has been one of Northern Germany's most significant garden and cultural events. Each year, the theme changes, taking audiences into a different cultural world. In 2026, Japan takes center stage – "Japan – Land of the Rising Sun." The castle grounds and park will become islands of Japanese culture for four days, complete with their own pavilions, gardens, and stages.
The program blends tradition and art. Taiko drummers will make the castle courtyards resonate with their powerful rhythms. Samurai performers will showcase historical martial arts and armor. Ikebana masters will demonstrate the art of Japanese flower arranging; origami workshops invite visitors to try their hand at folding. Artists will perform on stage, presenting Japan's musical and dance diversity.
A staple of the Landpartie are the performances by the world-famous Bückeburg Riding School. Three times daily, the court riders will present their haute école of horsemanship, each year with a unique staging that aligns with the current theme. In 2026, the performance will embrace the Japanese theme, uniquely blending it with Bückeburg's traditional equestrian art.
A market area featuring Asian and garden-related offerings will be created on the festival grounds. Plants, sculptures, pottery, handicrafts, fashion, and home accessories will be presented. The gastronomy will be specially tailored to the theme: sushi bars, ramen stands, tempura, mochi, and Japanese teas will complement the usual fare. Admission prices: €20 for adults, children under 14 free admission.
The 2026 edition continues the series of themed Landpartie events, turning its focus to Japanese culture for the first time. The curatorial preparation combines authentic Japanese cultural representatives with the grand settings of Bückeburg Castle.
Tickets are available in advance. Admission is free for children under 14, making the Landpartie an attractive outing for families.
The detailed 2026 program, including performance times for individual artists and equestrian shows, will be published by the Court Chamber in spring 2026. Tickets are available in the castle's online shop.
