Summer concert by the Kyiv Tango Orchestra as part of the Castle Classics series at Marksburg Castle
Marksburg Castle, above Braubach, is one of the most famous and best-preserved castles of the Middle Rhine region — it is one of the few hilltop castles in the Rhine Valley that has never been destroyed and has been part of the Upper Middle Rhine Valley UNESCO World Heritage site since 2002. Today, it houses the German Castles Association and a museum for medieval castle culture.
The Castle Classics series regularly brings high-quality classical and crossover concerts to the historic walls. The idea: to make castles experienceable as living cultural sites, beyond their function as tourist attractions. Concerts take place in the castle courtyard, the castle chapel, or one of the historic rooms — the intimate acoustics of the medieval architecture are part of the experience.
The Kyiv Tango Orchestra is one of the most renowned tango ensembles from Ukraine. The musicians, trained in the classical Ukrainian music tradition, specialize in Argentinian tango — an unusual combination that blends the repertoire of Astor Piazzolla, Carlos Gardel, and other tango greats with a Slavic-influenced interpretation. In times of war in Ukraine, such international performances by Ukrainian ensembles are also a cultural contribution to the preservation and further development of the Ukrainian music scene abroad.
The concert on Sunday, July 27, 2026, at 5 PM is designed as a summer afternoon format — not a grand evening concert, but an intimate matinee in the late afternoon, where daylight falls into the castle courtyard and the acoustics of the castle walls frame the tango sounds. Refreshments are typically available before and after the concert at the nearby Marksburg tavern.
The 2026 concert merges two cultural worlds: the Argentinian tango repertoire and the Ukrainian interpretive artistry of the Kyiv Tango Orchestra. Against the backdrop of the medieval Marksburg Castle, an extraordinary summer afternoon unfolds.
The exact program for 2026 (setlist, possibly explanatory spoken texts, intermission format) will be published by the organizer. The structure follows the proven cornerstones of the Castle Classics series: starting at 5 PM, concert duration approx. 90–120 minutes with an intermission, refreshments provided by the Marksburg tavern.
Works by Astor Piazzolla (Libertango, Adios Nonino, Oblivion), Carlos Gardel, and other tango composers — with the specific interpretation of the Ukrainian ensemble.
