Profile
KunstOffen is the statewide Pentecost event for visual artists in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. Participating studios, galleries, and cultural sites open their doors to visitors. For years, the Open-Air Museum for Folk Culture Schwerin-Mueß has been one of the central venues in the Schwerin city area.
Program
Across the expansive museum grounds on the Schweriner Innensee lake, painters, sculptors, and craftspeople present their work in the historic house complexes and outdoors. Live demonstrations—painting, sculpting, printmaking—make the creation process tangible. A selection exhibition showcases the diversity of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern's art scene.
Local Context
Since 1970, the Open-Air Museum has showcased historic farmhouses from all over Mecklenburg-Vorpommern—farmhouses, barns, workshops, and mills. The combination of contemporary art and built folk culture is part of the special character of the KunstOffen days in the state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern: art meets 200 years of North German rural life history.
