Two nights of culture in over 50 locations in the City of Peace — Special edition for the 100th anniversary of Grüne Finger
For over two decades, Kulturnacht Osnabrück has been the city-wide showcase of Osnabrück's cultural scene. What began as a manageable format in 2001 has developed into one of the most renowned cultural nights in Lower Saxony. Over fifty locations open their doors simultaneously, from the Felix Nussbaum Haus and Lagerhalle to small galleries, churches, and independent venues.
2026 is a special year for Osnabrück: the Grüne Finger (Green Fingers), the unique system of 13 open space axes that have extended into the city since 1926, are celebrating their centenary. Kulturnacht is responding to the anniversary with a two-day format. On Friday, August 28, 2026, the event will move to outdoor locations along the green axes — urban nature, parks, and neighborhoods will become the stage. On Saturday, August 29, 2026, the classic Kulturnacht experience will follow in the Old Town.
The traditional centerpiece of Saturday night is the main stage at the Market Square in front of the medieval town hall. Live bands, dance groups, choirs, and solo artists will entertain the crowd until after midnight.
Kulturnacht is free. The printed and digital evening program lists all events, times, and locations. Recommendation: choose your highlights in advance and plan your walking route through the Old Town.
Kulturnacht sees itself as a low-threshold format that reduces apprehension towards cultural institutions. Those who might not usually visit a theater or museum can discover venues, artists, and genres in the relaxed night atmosphere. The 2026 special edition combines this democratic approach with the ecological and urban planning anniversary of the Grüne Finger.
The 25th generation of Kulturnacht responds to the 100th anniversary of Grüne Finger with an unusual double format. On Friday evening, urban nature takes center stage: concerts, performances, and light installations will take place in parks, courtyards, and along the green axes. Saturday will then feature the familiar Old Town tour, with the Market Square as the stage center.
The complete program for Kulturnacht 2026, including all venues, stages, and time slots, will be published by the Osnabrück Marketing Office and the city administration in the summer of 2026. The structure follows the established key points of previous years:
Free admission to all participating locations. Program guide free of charge.
Free. Program guide available in print and online at kultur-os.de.
Recommended to arrive by public transport. Osnabrück Main Station is a ten-minute walk to the Old Town. Extended bus services on Kulturnacht evenings.
Review the program in advance and plan your route. Pack a water bottle, comfortable shoes, and rain gear.
