Hildesheim's largest street festival on Sedanallee – for the first time over three days
Sedanallee is one of Hildesheim's most attractive streets: a wide, tree-lined avenue with Wilhelminian-era architecture, cafés, and shops. During the Kulturmeile days, it is closed to traffic and transformed into a festival mile stretching the entire length of the avenue. Stages, market stalls, workshop areas, and performance stations are spread along the route, creating a spacious festival atmosphere.
The 2026 edition marks a significant expansion of the format: instead of one or two days, the Kulturmeile will be held over three days for the first time. Friday evening features a festive opening with artists, Saturday the main program with the densest schedule of concerts, arts and crafts, performances, and workshops, and Sunday is dedicated to a large flea market along Sedanallee. This division gives each day its own distinct character.
Concerts from a wide variety of genres take place on several stages along Sedanallee: singer-songwriters, indie, soul, jazz, folk, smaller rock sets, and acoustic versions of larger acts. The program emphasizes diversity and features both regional and national artists.
The market section focuses on arts and crafts and design products: jewelry, ceramics, textiles, wood, illustration, and book art. In the performance area, contemporary dancers, walk acts, theater groups, and performance artists will appear. This mix deliberately positions the Kulturmeile beyond the classic Schützenfest tradition and aims to attract a young audience interested in culture.
Hands-on workshops are a central element of the Kulturmeile: printmaking techniques, craft activities, creative writing workshops, dance and movement workshops, and child-friendly interactive stations. Here, the festival becomes an educational space and a platform for encounters.
Sunday is dedicated to a large flea market. Private individuals and commercial vendors set up stalls along Sedanallee, offering everything from vintage fashion, books, records, and toys to furniture and unique curiosities, embodying the character of a well-established city flea market.
The Kulturmeile has established itself as a fixture in recent years. With around 12,000 visitors in the previous edition (2024), it is one of the most visited summer events in Hildesheim and offers a deliberate counterpoint to classic city festival culture: creative, urban, performative, with space for a young audience and experimental formats.
The expansion to three days reflects the growing importance of the format and the organizer's desire to create more space for different program focuses. Friday, Saturday, and Sunday each receive their own character, allowing the festival to be experienced in three distinct modes.
The lineup of concerts and performances will be announced by the organizer in summer 2026 at kulturmeile-hildesheim.de.
