Barmbek's Civic Festival with History
The KulturBewegt! Neighborhood Festival is one of Hamburg's most traditional civic festivals. It originated in 1982 as a citizens' initiative for traffic calming in Barmbek-Nord and has developed over the years into a fixed summer date in the Hamburg-Nord district. 2026 marks the 40th edition.
Lorichsstraße as Festival Mile
The venue is Lorichsstraße around the KulturKlinker and the St. Gabriel Parish. Both institutions have been central players in local neighborhood work for decades. The festival runs on a Saturday in July from 12 PM to 6 PM.
Stage, Flea Market, Participation

Citizens' Initiative to This Day
Despite its age and current size, the neighborhood festival remains self-organized. Residents, KulturKlinker e.V., and the St. Gabriel Parish share the organization. In the Hamburg-Nord district, KulturBewegt! is one of the few neighborhood formats that has maintained its original civic idea – self-organization and traffic calming – for over four decades.
