Easter market around the Hundertwasser Tower of the Kuchlbauer Brewery
The Kuchlbauer Easter Festival is a mix of Easter market, beer festival, and art exhibition – a concept that works in this form only at the site of the Brauerei zum Kuchlbauer in Abensberg. The brewery has been family-owned for centuries and today houses the Kuchlbauer Bierwelt with the Kuchlbauer Tower designed by Friedensreich Hundertwasser – one of the most unusual architectural monuments in Lower Bavaria.
In the Sternenalm, an area directly at the tower, regional exhibitors present Easter decorations, arts and crafts, jewelry, and creative gifts. The market is free to enter and designed to be family-friendly: Easter Bunny visits, face painting, craft workshops, and creative stations are spread across the festival days.
In parallel to the market, the traditional "Bierstacheln" takes place, an old brewery custom where the beer is heated with a hot iron – "aufgestachelt". During the brewery tour, you'll experience one of the world's largest collections of Weißbier glasses: over 4,200 different specimens are exhibited in the basement of the Hundertwasser Tower. The seasonal Aloysius Hefeweissbier Bock is served.
Abensberg is located in the Lower Bavarian district of Kelheim, on the edge of the Hallertau – the world's largest hop-growing region. The town has been connected with hops and beer since the Middle Ages and today hosts several breweries. The Kuchlbauer Easter Festival represents the Lower Bavarian way of life, where beer, tradition, and lived art belong together inseparably.
In 2026, the Kuchlbauer Easter Festival celebrates its 7th edition. Between Palm Saturday (March 28) and Easter Monday (April 6), the brewery grounds are open daily. The Sternenalm hosts around 20 exhibitors with Easter decorations, arts and crafts, and culinary specialties.
The seasonal Hefeweissbier-Bock Aloysius is ceremoniously tapped at the beginning of the festival. "Bierstacheln" involves heating the beer with a hot iron – an old tradition with a typical caramel flavor.
The neighboring KunstHausAbensberg complements the program with temporary exhibitions, guided tours of the Hundertwasser Tower, and the world's largest collection of Weißbier glasses.
